Costa Coffee has been given the green light by the district council’s development committee to go ahead with its cafe plans in Fakenham.
Despite six objections about competition and the need for other types of businesses in the town, officials felt that the benefits outweighed any negativity.
The country’s biggest coffee chain had submitted plans to convert two empty premises on Bridge Street which formerly housed a video library and a florist.
A report to councillors had stated that: “While a number of coffee shops already exist in the town, it is considered that given the relatively small floorspace and the edge of town centre location, the proposal will not have a significantly detrimental impact upon the vitality of the town centre.
Costa Coffee reckons its popularity across the nation will attract more trade to the community.
