Will Prince Andrew Drive in Dersingham be renamed?
A resident has called for a road bearing the title of a disgraced prince to have its name changed.
Prince Andrew Drive is situated on a sleepy Dersingham estate, primarily made up of bungalows. It is believed to be the only road in West Norfolk named after him.
A mix of opinions have been shared regarding the road’s name since Andrew Mountbatten Windsor was stripped of his titles and told to move to the Sandringham Estate.
It is up to residents if they want the name to be changed, with at least two-thirds having to agree.
One resident, who wished not to be named, said she believes that it should be altered.
“I think most of us think it should be changed. It seems wrong,” she said.
“I think quite a few people who live here think the same. We have said that it should be sorted out.”
When asked if residents would take further action to bring this about, she remained unsure.
Another resident, who also wished not to be named, did not seem too bothered by the name.
“It is just a name, isn’t it?” she said.
“As long as he doesn’t move next door, it is fine.”
Just around the corner from Prince Andrew Drive are Prince Charles Close and Queen Elizabeth Drive, along with a few others with names linked to the Royal Family.
Although the former prince is not moving to his namesake street, he will soon be moving to a premises on the King’s Sandringham Estate.
It is thought he will be moving from the Royal Lodge in Windsor to Sandringham in the new year.
Last week, other residents living nearby reacted to the news Andrew will be moving to West Norfolk, with some saying he should be “locked up” while others argued that he has learned his lesson.
