Downham Market Town Council contributes £1,000 towards footpath leading into Wimbotsham

A town council has decided to contribute towards costs of a new path that would better connect Downham to Wimbotsham.

Councillors at Downham Town Council voted to make a contribution to the Low Road footpath, which in its current state has been branded as “dangerous.”

It comes after Wimbotsham Parish Council approached the town council asking for a contribution to help cover the rest of its funding.

The parish council has said improving the path will encourage residents to walk into Downham.

Downham Deputy Mayor Charlie Pyatt said: “I run along there into the town often and it is quite dangerous.”

Cllr Stephen Moyses added: “I think we should help support this, Wimbotsham is a neighbouring village, people who work in the town can walk to work and it is good for the environment and people’s health.”

Councillors voted in favour of contributing £1,000 towards the costs of the footpath.
