Swaffham Town Council appoints Graham Eves as deputy mayor after David Braithwaite resigns from role

Swaffham already has a new deputy mayor, despite it only being a month since the previous one was elected.

David Braithwaite has resigned from his role as deputy mayor after allegedly not knowing how much time he would need to give to the civic position.

He will still serve as a councillor, while Cllr Graham Eves stepped into his shoes when he was voted to be deputy mayor at a full council meeting held on Wednesday.

During the meeting, mayor Lindsay Beech said: “I think the reason we had the resignation was because it takes up a lot of time and there are more events to go to.

“You have to make that commitment to the role.”

Cllr Steph Cooper proposed that Cllr Eves should be the town’s deputy mayor.

She said: “He would be a great asset to this town as deputy mayor.”

After being elected, Cllr Eves said: “I would like to say thank you for your support.

“I want everyone to be at one at this table.”
