Hunstanton’s new mayor will be chosen tonight when the town council meets for the first time following the recent elections.

The meeting is being held in the council chamber at the town hall and will start at 6.30pm.

Outgoing mayor Carol Bower will hand over the chain of office to a successor who will be chosen from the 17 councillors elected to the authority on May 7.

Mrs Bower is no longer a town councillor, but was elected as one of the town’s three representatives on the West Norfolk Council.

She will serve alongside fellow Conservative Paul Beal and independent Richard Bird, who topped the borough poll and was also re-elected to the town council earlier this month.

James Johnson is the current deputy mayor.
