Norfolk County Council to introduce recycling centre booking system in November in money-saving bid

Norfolk County Council is introducing a new policy which will mean residents will soon have to book a time to go to the tip.

As of November, the authority will introduce the booking system for all recycling centres across the county in a bid to reduce congestion and waiting times and save money.

The council also says it will reduce the risk of traders disposing of their waste without paying.

In order to visit your local recycling centre as of November, you will have to book a slot on the Norfolk Council Council website up to seven days in advance of your visit.

People who do not have access to the internet can call a designated phone number to book a time slot.

Members of the public have taken to social media to express their concerns about the new booking system - saying that the new policy would only encourage further fly tipping.

On the Watlington Village People Issues and Events Facebook page, one person said: “Watch the fly-tipping increase.”

Another added: “How ridiculous, how do you know when you are going to be ready to go?”

On the King’s Lynn, Warts and All group, another said: “Completely unnecessary. Adding an obstacle of having to book an appointment is only going to deter people from disposing of things correctly.”
