King’s Lynn court mystified by Florin-Elvis Alexandru - a man with ‘five aliases’
Mystery surrounds a man with “five aliases” after a court was unable to be sure of his identity.
Magistrates were forced to adjourn the case of 37-year-old Florin-Elvis Alexandru after a lengthy period spent trying to ascertain who he is.
It had appeared to be a routine case - Alexandru had admitted carrying out business as a scrap metal dealer without a licence, transporting controlled waste without proving his employer’s authority, and driving without insurance.
However, proceedings soon became clouded when it was made aware that he has been sentenced for previous offences under a different name and age.
Crown prosecutor Colette Harper then told the court that Alexandru has “five different aliases” on his criminal record.
Despite being told he had previous matters dealt with at a Northamptonshire court, he claimed this was not the case.
Magistrates therefore opted to adjourn the case until December 12 in order for Alexandru to provide his passport and Romanian driving licence to prove his identity.
The police will also be asked to provide finger print data from the offences.
Alexandru, of Alma Road in Peterborough, had been caught driving with the scrap metal in Downham on April 4.
It included a radiator, washing machine and cooker.
He told the court that he had been trying to “make some extra money” by transporting the items for an existing work client.
Alexandru has been released on unconditional bail.
