Crews called to barn fire in Fincham - as residents urged to close windows and doors




Residents in part of West Norfolk were advised to keep their windows and doors shut as fire crews dealt with a blaze.

Firefighters from Downham, Lynn, Swaffham and West Walton, along with a water carrier from Fakenham, were called to Downham Road in Fincham this afternoon after a barn caught alight – with Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service alerted at around 3.30pm.

The fire service said, in a post on social media: “We are currently dealing with an ongoing incident in Fincham/Marham area.

“Please keep your windows and doors closed. Thank you.”

Local photographer John Millward shared a photo and video from the scene, which showed smoke rising from a barn as firefighters responded to the incident.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said, in a statement at around 5.15pm: “We have had a number of crews attend a fire at an agricultural premises but we are beginning to scale down our response now.”

Crews have now extinguished the blaze using hose reels and thermal imaging cameras.

A stop message – meaning the incident was under control – was received at 4.32pm.
