A homeless man accused of brandishing a knife outside a Lynn pub on Sunday has appeared bare-chested in court.

Stood in the dock half dressed, Simeao De Pina refused to co-operate with Lynn magistrates when he appeared before them this morning in relation to an alleged affray outside the Wildfowler Pub in Gayton Road.

The 36-year-old, of no fixed abode, would not give his name or enter any pleas to charges of affray, making threats to kill and possessing an offensive weapon.

He also refused any legal aid from the duty solicitor.

The court heard police received reports of a male walking along Gayton Road with a knife at about 5pm.

Armed officers were deployed to the scene, but De Pina was detained by unarmed officers, using batons and PAVA spray (similar to the effects CS gas) before they arrived.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction and adjourned the case for a preliminary hearing at Norwich Crown Court on April 8.

De Pina was remanded in custody until then.
