A father accused of assaulting and neglecting his children – including punching them and stabbing them with forks – has appeared in court today, Thursday, September 4.

The man, who lives in a West Norfolk village, is accused of ill-treating his son, daughter and step-son over a period of 12 years.

He appeared before Lynn magistrates charged with 11 counts of assaulting and neglecting the children, now aged 14, 13 and 9.

He also faces two charges of assaulting the children’s mother, occasioning her actual bodily harm.

The child neglect charges allegedly took place between 2001 and 2013 in Outwell, Norfolk, Norwich and Peterborough.

The ABH charges allegedly happened between 2005 and 2011 in Outwell and Peterborough.

The father cannot be identified for legal reasons to protect the identities of the children. He spoke only to confirm his name, age and address to the court and did not enter pleas to any of the charges.

Magistrates sent the case to Norwich Crown Court, where a preliminary hearing is due to be held on September 18. He was released on conditional bail until then.
