King's Lynn cyclist smashes charity challenge

Ryan Percy who is a team member at Amberley Hall care home in Lynn has cycled a distance of 2,500 miles for charity Dementia UK.

Ryan set his sights on a lofty target back in the summer, in memory of his grandmother, Ryan committed to cycling 25 miles a day every day from September 6 until December 15.

The target would see him cycle 2,500 miles across the challenge which is the equivalent of London to Cape Verde, or John O’Groats to Lands’ End three times.

Ryan said: "I believe that no family should ever face dementia alone. I took on this 2,500 mile challenge to help give families specialist dementia support through their Admiral Nurse Service.

"The need for the specialist nurses has never been greater, so the more money #TeamDementiaUK raises, the more dementia nurses we will be able to fund and the more families will be helped.

"The woman who inspired me to start this challenge was my nan, Margaret Whitman, who sadly passed away in November 2020 with dementia.

"She made me laugh every time she opened her mouth and I’m still struggling to come to the realisation that she isn’t with us anymore.

"However, I hope this challenge will make her proud and in the end I will have raised as much money as possible to support other families who are going through what my family went through."

Ryan’s fundraiser is still open for donations on his JustGiving page
