Lynn’s Saturday Market Place will not be open to traffic this weekend as planned after further delays were sparked by weather and machinery problems.
Engineers were hoping to re-open the square and half of the car parking spaces on Saturday.
But this has been prevented by heavy rain along with problems with machinery at the quarry.
The market place has been closed to drivers since mid-August as part of a £640,000 regeneration project, which will include a one-way system, wider pavements and new surfacing.
The project has been hit by a number of delays including the discovert of the remains of a medieval chapel, which were examined by archaelogists.
West Norfolk Council is working with Norfolk County Council to transform the historic market place.
The pavement in front of the town hall will be made wider to create seating areas outside Market Bistro and The Wenns and the car park will be reduced by 11 spaces.
