Swaffham delivery driver Bradley Jackson caught drug-driving BMW on Swan Road in Dereham
A drug-driver who was more than three times the limit has been disqualified.
Bradley Jackson, 30, of Lancaster Road in Swaffham, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he admitted driving above the specified drug limit.
Prosecutor Jessica Neequaye told the court that at 5.45pm on June 28, police were on patrol and had reason to stop the BMW that Jackson was driving on Swan Road in Dereham.
Officers noticed a strong smell of cannabis in Jackson’s car and ordered that he carry out a drug test.
A reading came back positive and Jackson was arrested.
He was taken to Lynn’s Police Investigation Centre for further tests, which showed he had around 7mcg of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol - a cannabis breakdown - in his system. The legal limit to drive is 2mcg.
In mitigation, duty solicitor George Sorrell told magistrates that there was “nothing wrong” with Jackson’s driving.
He explained that Jackson is a delivery driver, so he will lose his job due to the mandatory disqualification that comes with committing a drink or drug-driving offence.
“He doesn’t normally take cannabis, but he was going through a very bad time, he had just lost both of his grandparents and was suffering with grief,” added Mr Sorrell.
Jackson was disqualified from driving for the minimum period of 12 months and fined £146.
He will also pay a victim surcharge of £58 and court costs of £85.
