Denver man's marathon will give back to charity which helped his daughter

A man from Denver will be putting a marathon effort into fundraising for St John Ambulance next year when he takes part in one of the country’s most iconic running events.

Paul Dungay, who is a member of the Armed Forces based at RAF Honington, is a keen runner who has secured a place to compete in the Virgin Money London Marathon in April.

Paul, 36, also has a personal reason to support St John Ambulance, which has previously helped his daughter.

He said, at a pre-season friendly football game at Norwich’s Carrow Road, his daughter – who was five at the time – cut her back after trying to sit down when her seat had folded up.

“They came and patched her back up, and they did a really good job,” Paul added.

“These volunteers are a part of the furniture at many local and national events, it would not be possible to have such safe events without this superb charity.”

Paul has been working up to a marathon in the last few years, having previously completed half-marathons.

He is hoping to raise at least £1,900 for the charity, and will have a bucket collection in Downham next weekend.

Paul is also looking to hold a Quiz and Chips night with a raffle at Denver Village Hall on Saturday, January 25 at 7pm.

Any raffle prizes, or any sponsorships for the quiz or individual rounds, will be gratefully received. If you can help, email dunge28@yahoo.co.uk or call 07776 233376.

A ticket will cost £12, including the fish and chips, and raffle ticket. Refreshments will also be available.
