Deputy Mayor of Lynn shares emotional message to the public after losing husband to Covid

The borough deputy mayor has shared an emotional message for today’s National Day of Reflection after losing her husband to Covid-19 earlier this year.

Margaret Wilkinson is one of the longest serving members of West Norfolk Council in Lynn and her husband Peter was also a councillor.

They were proud grandparents to their two grandsons.

Mrs Wilkinson shared a personal and heartfelt message ahead of the event via videolink.

She said: “As we emerge from the most serious restrictions of the virus, this is the time we are using to reflect on the people who have been lost.

“As for the efforts for our NHS and healthcare workers, the situation could have been much much worse.

“There are many of us who are missing someone close. I am also missing the pain and loss of my husband with you all.

“Stay strong, have your vaccinations and save our NHS.”

Today is the anniversary of the first UK lockdown, after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced to the nation that shops anrestaurantsts would be closing and we would have to stay at home.

It felt like we were living in dystopian novel, but now it has become a normal way of life.

No one could have imagined that a year on, 127,000 lives would have been lost to the virus.
