A discount retailer has temporarily closed its branch in the heart of Lynn over the Easter weekend.

Notices were placed in the windows of the Savers premises in Norfolk Street today to inform shoppers of the move, which it is understood came into effect from the close of business on Saturday.

The notices did not give an explanation for the closure, though it is thought the safety of workers and shoppers was a factor.

Other nearby traders, such as QD, have already taken the decision to shut their branches because of concern for the safety of their staff and customers during the coronavirus pandemic.

The posters said: "We are working to open as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience."

Customers have instead been directed to its website or alternative branches in Downham and Wisbech.

However, yesterday afternoon, the company's website was displaying a message saying it would not be taking further online orders until this morning.

Savers have been approached for comment.

The move followed confirmation on Thursday that Debenhams, which has a branch on Lynn's High Street, had gone into administration.
