Downham Market disqualified driver in King’s Lynn court for using electric scooter on A10
A disqualified driver who was trying to “save himself some energy” by getting about on an electric scooter found himself in court.
Kevin Mole, 38, of Crow Hall Estate in Downham, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he admitted to driving while disqualified and without any insurance.
Prosecutor Stephen Munton said that the offence took place on May 1.
A police officer was filling up his car at the Esso garage in Downham when he spotted Mole on an electric scooter driving down the A10 and into the filling station shop.
The officer decided to seize the scooter and put it in his car.
The court was told that Mole came out of the shop and said: “That’s my scooter.”
Mole was disqualified from driving in April 2022 for three years for drink-driving.
In mitigation, George Sorrell said that Mole lived at home with his parents in Downham, but worked in Crimplesham and was using the electric scooter to get there.
“Unfortunately, he found out the use of these scooters on public roads was unlawful,” said Mr Sorrell.
“He was trying to save himself a little bit of energy. Now he assures you that he will use a bicycle instead.”
A total of three extra months were added onto Mole’s driving disqualification and he was also fined £400.
He will also pay a victim surcharge of £160 and court costs of £85.
