Concerns raised for elderly residents living in West Acre as internet outage expected to last until the end of the week

An entire village being left without internet for several days has prompted a concerned resident to ask: “Do we have to wait for somebody to die?”

West Acre has had a total internet outage since Thursday evening, meaning elderly residents with emergency careline machines cannot access the vital service.

One resident told the Lynn News that an elderly neighbour had to walk up the road in the dark to seek help for her husband, who had a fall.

The internet outage is thought to have occurred due to a fallen oak tree.

Sally Bridle, who lives in the village, has been told BT Openreach will not be out until the end of the week to fix the issue.

She said: “Quite a few people in the village have emergency carelines.

“BT have said it is classed as an emergency, but they said that it will not be fixed by the end of the week.

“Do we have to wait for somebody to die before someone comes out?”

BT Openreach have been approached for comment.
