Downham Market Council accept offer of mediation from Borough Council of West Norfolk

The leader of the Borough Council is pleased to see that the borough council’s offer of support with regards to expert mediation towards helping resolve the current issues at Downham Town Council has been accepted.

Even though the borough council is an entirely separate and impartial entity from the town council, Councillor Stuart Dark had written to Downham Town Councillors with a financial commitment to help fund expert mediation.

Councillor Dark said: “I appreciate the community concern with regards to recent reports in the media.

"I am pleased to say that we have been contacted by representatives from all sides who have agreed to constructively engage in mediation.

“Our Monitoring Officer is now going to work with the parties to find an appropriate provider and commence the process promptly.”

Liz Truss, MP for South West Norfolk, commented: “I very much welcome this announcement.

"It is a positive step forward and I am extremely pleased that the offer from the Borough Council to assist with mediation has been supported by all Downham Town Councillors.”

The offer of fifty per cent of the cost of mediation is in addition to assistance the borough council has provided to date.
