Downham Fryer changes hands thanks to local business agent's deal

The change of hands of a Downham fish and chip shop marks the end of an era for one businessman and a first for the business which handled the deal.

Long time fish fryer Graham Adderson has retired after 25 years in the business. His shop, the Downham Fryer, is now under new management.

Taking over the Bridge Street business is Mr Florentino Rodrigues, who has many years' experience in the trade.

The sale was assisted by local business agents Adams and Co, run by husband-and-wife team Simon and Sarah Oakley, from Watlington. They purchased Adams and Co East Anglia and moved the company's office from Lowestoft in March.

Senior partner Simon Oakley said: "This is a great traditional fish and chip shop and due to its excellent reputation, all down to Graham’s hard work, we received much interest from many parts of the country.

"We know Florentino will continue the good work and wish him every success in the future and hope Graham enjoys his retirement."

This was Adams and Co's first completion since Simon and Sarah started the business in March.

He said: "This business had been on the market for more than two years with a national agent. When I received the instruction I sold it within a couple of months.

"Our business has got off to a great start. We now represent many businesses throughout Norfolk and East Anglia, and our reputation with our clients is very positive. We make sure we provide a great service to both buyer and seller."

Simon has many years experience at senior management level in the motor trade and at one time was the general manager of Kings Lynn Audi and also Marshall Ford Toyota in Lynn.

The East Anglia office of Adams and Co covers a large area, from Hull in the north to Felixstowe in Suffolk as well as Wisbech and the Fens.

Simon said that the firm's national presence offers strong digital marketing support and a vast database of prospective buyers, enabling it to promote local businesses for sale countrywide.
