Downham Market club boosts Norfolk Blood Bikes with £1,700 donation

Downham Market Rotary Club has boosted the county's Blood Bikes organisation, after donating £1,700 to the cause.

Rotary secretary Shaun Button encouraged the club to contribute funds to Norfolk Blood Bikes, a voluntary organisation which transports blood, vaccines, and any other urgently required medical items to hospitals across the county, as well as the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

After lobbying members, the club raised £1,700 which was donated to the charity, which relies entirely on donations to keep them on the road, in a socially-distanced presentation on Tuesday, July 7.

Downham Market Rotary president Howard Phillips said the club continues to support local good causes in spite of restrictions in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He said: "Of our biggest problems was not being able to get together to socialise and discuss what we are aiming to achieve.

"We have substituted Zoom meetings online while we can't meet physically which are quite effective."

Mr Phillips said they welcome non-members who wish to join in or who might like to join Rotary.

Details of their meetings over the next couple of months can be found on the 'club meetings' page on their website www.therotaryclubofdownhammarket.co.uk.
