Downham Market duo's 200-mile trek to Cardiff for Heather Bellamy begins today

Two members of staff from a popular Downham restaurant will set off on the first leg of a 200-mile walk today to raise funds for Heather Bellamy.

Arbuckles workers Chris Heyes and Andy Lucraft-Townley are set to walk from the restaurant on the A10 to Cardiff over 10 days to support fellow Downham resident Heather, who has a rare type of leukaemia.

Ahead of the walk, Chris said: “I think it’s fair to say that we are both really keen to get going now. We have ticked all the boxes we needed to and just want to get on the road.

“The support we have had has been incredible, either from local businesses or just from people donating into our GoFundMe page.

“A special mention has to go to John Murphy who, on behalf of Arbuckles, had set us a challenge to raise £5,000 and then he would match it.

“So, thanks to everybody that has donated, we have managed to reach that target.”

The pair’s walk, ending at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday, April 21, will support former nurse Heather in raising £250,000 to get her the life-saving treatment she needs, which is only available in America.

They will leave Arbuckles at 10am this morning to reach their first stop in Chatteris by the end of day one.
