A new training centre is helping unemployed people gain their forklift truck licences.
Anne Clarke Associates has taken on a unit next to its base in St John’s Business Estate, Downham, to create to a warehouse for learners to get to grips with the forklift truck.
The company, which has a contract with Skills Funding Agency, has been running the course for a number of years but has taken on the unit after spotting a demand for forklift truck drivers.
Up to six people each week will be taking on the five day course, which will include a mixture of theory and practical work. The course is aimed at people who are claiming Job Seekers Allowance.
Daniel Kemp, from the firm, said: “We have been running the course for three to four years and there is always a huge demand. We have looked at job sites within a 20 mile radius and noticed there are a lot of vacancies.”
