Downham Market girl's ‘amazing’ hair cut to support Heather Bellamy

A young girl from Downham has raised hundreds for Heather Bellamy’s appeal after losing 40cm of her hair at the weekend.

Lily-May Carpenter, aged seven, had her long locks cut short at The Watt in Downham by Jaymz Marsters on Saturday morning, and so far she has raised £665 to support fellow resident Heather, who has a rare type of leukaemia.

Lily-May’s mum Faye Carpenter said: “Her haircut went amazingly – we are incredibly proud of her.”

The money she has raised will support the Hope for Heather appeal, which aims to raise £250,000 to get Heather the life-saving treatment she needs in America.

Lily-May’s shorn locks will also help more people, as her hair is being donated to the Little Princess Trust which creates real hair wigs for children and young people with hair loss.

Although the family does not have personal connections to Heather, Lily-May’s school has previously held fundraising events for the appeal, and Faye said this led to her daughter expressing her wish to help Heather by having her hair cut one day after school.

Donations are still welcome at Lily-May’s fundraising page, at www.gofundme.com/lilymays-hair-cut-for-heather.
