A Downham great-grandmother’s family helped her to celebrate her 100th birthday in style.
Dolly Gapp was joined by her son Terry, his daughter Helen Liddell and her children Daisy, six, and Sonny, two, for the celebration on Sunday.
Mrs Gapp was also joined by other family members and close friends at Ashville House care home in Fairfield Road, Downham, where she has lived since 2013.
Mr Gapp, who also lives in Downham, said his mum enjoyed the day and was delighted to receive a birthday card from the Queen.
Mrs Gapp was born in Whittington and grew up in Gooderstone, before going into domestic service in Wereham after leaving school at the age of 14.
She also worked in service in Downham, Felixstowe and West Walton, before marrying her husband Ted. He was well-known in the Downham area working at Laxons, but died in 1993.
Mrs Gapp enjoys seeing her family and, despite being almost blind, likes to spend some time doing word search puzzles.
Mrs Gapp said the secret of her long life was down to “hard work, keeping busy and being happy”.
“My birthday was a very busy day and it was lovely to see the family and friends.”
