Downham Market restaurant marks 22 years of business with fundraising party

A Downham restaurant has marked its 22nd anniversary with a fundraising party held in the town hall at the weekend.

The Downham Tandoori Restaurant hosted the event, with live entertainment and a three-course meal, marking more than two decades of business on Sunday, which also celebrated Indian music and culture, and raised funds for a good cause.

Owner Anwar Ali said there was a personal reason behind their decision to support their chosen charity, Headway - the brain injury association.

They chose Headway after Mr Ali’s father, who suffered a brain haemorrhage, died in January.

“We chose a charity which helps people suffering with brain injuries because of my dad,” Mr Ali added.

The restaurant has now raised £2,500 for Headway following the party. A proportion of this total had been gathered in sponsorships when three members of staff completed the Peterborough Half Marathon in October last year.

A post on the restaurant’s Facebook page said: “Last night was amazing! Thank you to everyone who attended, we hope you all had a great time. We know that we did!

“Thank you to all the acts and everyone who helped make the night possible.”

The night was hosted by Jonathan Ansell, of vocal group G4, and around 140 guests enjoyed live entertainment from London School of Bollywood, Achanak, Apache Indian and Sitar and Tabla from Jonathan Mayer and Paul Clarvis.
