Walking the walk to raise awareness of greyhounds
Thousands of greyhounds and their owners are due to join together for the Great Global Greyhound Walk on Sunday to raise awareness of the breed.
One such person is Lorraine Bullman, from Downham, who will take part in the international event which celebrates greyhounds.
Lorraine is set to join dozens of other walkers at Brandon Country Park on Sunday from 10am, where the organiser is Debbie Albins, who runs the Lynn branch of the Greyhound Trust.
This year’s event, which will see more than 200 walks in the UK and abroad, has a theme of Love is All Around.
“We will be using the theme to dress up (both humans and hounds) and will be holding a raffle and tombola, and inviting everyone to join us for a picnic afterwards,” Lorraine added.
“It is the first time the event has had over 200 walks registered and we are very hopeful that it will be our biggest, most successful Great Global Greyhound Walk yet.”
The event in Brandon will also include some games after the walk including a ‘sausage race’ for the dogs.
Lorraine said: “We particularly invite to Brandon anyone who just wants to meet these lovely dogs and find out more about them. You don’t have to own a dog to join in.”
Greyhound Walks, the charity behind the international event, aims to socialise greyhounds and lurchers, and to promote awareness of retired greyhounds as family pets.
