Downham post office is to move to new premises next month.

Postmaster Parvin Begum is moving her branch to the former Price Right Shoes shop at 31 High Street, when it becomes a WH Smith Local store.

The move takes place on Tuesday, December 22. The last day of trading at the present location, 9 Wales Court, will be the day before.

WHSmith Local franchise stocking WHSmith branded cards, stationery and gift wrap. 

There will also be a wider range of newspapers and magazines available to be bought.

The new branch will have four modern counter positions two open­plan, one screened and a Post Office terminal by the shop’s retail till Post Office services will be available furing the store’s openign hours of 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday.

This is an extra hour on Saturday than what is currently offered.

Will Russell, Post Office regional manager, said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents of Downham Market and we are confident that this new modern service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”
