Downham Round Table’s fireworks display was back with a bang with a record attendance at Stradsett Hall on Saturday.

This was held at Stradsett for only the second time after moving from Denver, while last year organisers had to cancel the event due to Covid restrictions.

In 2019 around 4,500 attended but an estimated 6,000 to 6,500 turned up this time.

Chairman of Downham Round Table, Ryan Rix said: “We got a lot more people than expected. The atmosphere onsite all evening was buzzing.

“People were saying it was more like a festival than a fireworks.

“The DJ, Jack Ropa, who is a member of Downham Round Table, got everyone dancing.”

Organisers got the crowds through the gates in time for a smaller first display which was followed by ‘the big bang’ at about 7.30pm onwards “without a hitch,” he added.

Main sponsors were King’s Lynn Construction Ltd while CGM Grounds Maintenance donated their time and efforts into preparing the site.

Grey Goose Archery and Grey Goose Axes were onsite along with a full sized fairground, complete with dodgems, roller coasters, big wheels and everything in between including zorb balls.

Among the array of food and drinks vendors, at Downham Round Table’s own food stall the 1,500 burgers sold out within two hours.

The meats came from Sergeants of Stowbridge, and the bread rolls from Smiths the Bakers – both are royal warrant holders.

Mr Rix added: “At the food tent there were 40 volunteers and every penny we make there goes in the charitable pot.”
