Drink-driver crashed into stationary car in East Rudham
Emergency services were called after a drink-driver crashed into another stationary vehicle one evening.
On March 6, police attended a collision on the A148 at East Rudham where a car had crashed into a stationary vehicle that had stopped at some temporary traffic lights.
Police spoke to the driver of the car, who turned out to be 30-year-old Luke Jackson.
Jackson appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he admitted driving above the specified alcohol limit.
After the crash, Jackson was taken to Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further checks.
There, he provided a blood sample which showed he had 151mcg of alcohol per litre of blood. The legal limit to drive is 80mcg.
In mitigation, George Sorrell said that Jackson was living in Cromer at the time of the offence and decided to get behind the wheel to see his family in Coventry.
“This year has been a very unhappy time for him,” said Mr Sorrell.
“He had separated from his girlfriend, she left him with three children who are now in his custody,” said Mr Sorrell.
“He went back to Cromer but decided he couldn’t cope. He wanted to go back to Coventry where his family lives.
“The balance in his mind was not clear, normal common sense had departed. Luckily, he wasn’t seriously injured.”
For the offence, Jackson, of Parry Road in Coventry, was disqualified from driving for 18 months. He was also fined £120 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £48.
