Ward Round column: Queen Elizabeth Hospital CEO discusses Easter kindness and careers clinic

In her monthly Ward Round column, QEH CEO Alice Webster discusses community kindness and an upcoming careers clinic…

Easter and spring are seen as a time for celebration and hope. Across the trust we’ve seen some wonderful generosity which has highlighted to us the kindness within our local community.

From deliveries of thousands of chocolate eggs to children who are spending time in our care to the delivery of some lovingly knitted teddy companions delivered by a local care home which brought smiles to so many.

It wonderful to see how much the QEH means to our community, and we thank you all for your kindness and generosity.

If you are interested in joining Team QEH – in a role to suit you – then you can come along to our careers clinic at the Job Centre on Broad Street in Lynn on Saturday, April 27.

Our dedicated team will be on hand to talk you through the range of careers you can embark on within the NHS – with more than 350 available there really is something for everyone.

There’s no need to book, simply pop along anytime between 10am and 3pm and find out how you can unleash your potential NHS career.

Keeping on the careers topic, we are hosting a nurse recruitment open day to give potential team members a chance to meet our nursing team and find out what it’s like to be part of the QEH.

Whether you are an experienced registered nurse, returning to practice or training to become a nurse, we have opportunities for you.

This is the fourth event of its kind, resulting in 37 new nursing colleagues, and we’ve had some lovely feedback from everyone who has attended so far.

The event will be held on Saturday, May 11 from 10am to 2pm – pop onto the careers section of our website (www.qehkl.nhs.uk) to find out more.

I’ve updated you previously on the progress we are making with our digital transformation and specifically our patient management observation system which launched a year ago and is now being used to benefit patients across 13 wards.

We continue to receive excellent feedback from both staff and patients on this development that has improved the care we provide.

The system digitally records patients’ vital signs, allowing us to quickly identify patients that need our help.

Having this real time information allows our clinicians to act on deterioration in a patient’s condition, leading to more accurate, timely treatment.

As always thank you for your continued support.
