EAT MY WORDS: Poppylicious in Snettisham provides tasty, filling lunch by friendly staff as part of a Sunday afternoon jaunt round the coast
A place to pop to for a spot of lunch on a Sunday was the order of the day.
My friend Robin had talked about Poppylicious in Snettisham with enthusiasm so we decided to go.
We were looking forward to a bite to eat but not a full meal.
The café is in the Poppyfields Retail Park in Poppyfields Drive with a number of other businesses.
It is a bright café with booth seating and serves breakfast choices until 3pm.
Robin and I were both tempted to have a full English which was on the menu but we stuck to the plan.
There are also vegan and vegetarian options to choose from too, along with dietary requirements such as gluten free.
The car park is also quite big so there was no need to worry about parking.
We ordered at the counter and the staff had kindly reserved a table that I had pre-booked just in case they were busy.
They were in fact busy and the place had filled up while we were there.
At one point the whole café joined in to sing Happy Birthday as a cake with candles was brought out to a customer.
Robin ordered a chicken wrap filled with salad and coleslaw (£8.45) and I ordered a prawn sandwich with Marie Rose sauce on granary bread (£8.95), plus two cups of Fairtrade tea (£4.30), a coke (£2.95) and Franklin and Sons cherry and plum sparkling soft drink (£2.95), served in cute glass mugs, to wash it all down with.
The booth seating is spacious, and apart from the delicious food, this is why Robin likes it at Poppylicious.
He said: “It has space, which is why I keep coming back Jen.”
Our sandwiches were brought over by staff who were all friendly and chatty throughout our visit.
Mine was served with crisps, salad and coleslaw on the side and it looked so delicious I realised I had eaten half before I'd taken a photo.
A light dressing on the salad with cherry tomatoes, onion and pepper made it fresh and tasty and it was filled to the brim with prawns.
Robin noted the crisps were good quality and I agreed as a crisp lover myself.
He said his chicken wrap with coleslaw and salad filling was “lovely.”
Following the tasty course I wanted to try the Victoria sponge cake (£3.45) which was sweet with its jam and buttercream and tasted good.
Not to be a killjoy, but the background radio was a little loud, but that is just a personal opinion.
It's a lovely café, with other businesses in the retail park including a hairdresser, aquatics and a new vintage and antique shop called Antiques and Outrageous Vintage to have a root around in.
With our appetites quenched, we hopped into the sports car for a spin to nearby Hunstanton as the weather was sunny.
Poppylicious is perfect for a Sunday afternoon, or any day of the week for that matter, to pop by for a tasty bite to eat and explore the vintage shop and other businesses nearby.
Rating out of five:
