Education at home is best if it has some drama
A growing number of parents are choosing to educate their children at home rather than a traditional school environment.
While parents are able to teach a wide range of subjects, they also look around for different groups for their children to participate in.
For the last five years, MissAdventures Theatre Company have been running hugely popular home ed drama sessions for the children of West Norfolk.
Beginning in a village hall, the company now hire spaces at Westacfe Theatre and has expanded to offer two different classes for the many young people attending.
MissAdventures also offer tuition towards LAMDA Grades in Acting with many students gaining over 90 per cent in their exams earning them Distinctions.
Places are very limited and can be booked through MissAdventures Theatre Company director Camilla Falconbridge.
MissAdventures drama classes work with a ‘process over product’ ethos where they put the emphasis firmly on the fun!
Classes can help to boost imagination, build confidence and social skills, develop creative and critical thinking and help young people empathise with different characters.
Using drama games, techniques and activities, the groups explore the world around them by creating scenes, characters, stories and plays.
Past productions have included their own versions of Bugsy Malone, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Wizard of Oz, Paddington and Treasure Island.
“We count down the days to the next group. He was hooked after day one.” said Camilla.
“I am passionate about using drama as a tool for gaining confidence, new skills and developing imagination.
“I have seen young people flourish through participating in both group drama sessions and 1:1 tuition.
"The home ed movement is growing and I am delighted to add home educated young people to the MissAdventures dramatic family!”
New faces are always welcome to the drama sessions and the LAMDA tuition with the new term starting on Thursday, April 25.
It is held over 11 Thursdays during term-time 12-1.30pm and 2-3.30pm at Westacre Theatre, River Road, West Acre. £60.50p.
