The night was hosted by Gavin Caney, sports journalist and former CWA sports student.

Special guests and former students included professional kite surfer Danielle Durrant, and Jack Friend, professional footballer at Peterborough United.

Both spoke of their lives since leaving CWA. They encouraged the students to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them while at CWA; and said how studying at CWA helped them achieve their dreams.

Both Dannielle and Jack were entered into CWA’s sports hall of fame on public display at the campus and each received their framed recognitions.

The focus of the awards was to recognise and celebrate student achievements over the year, which included:

l The Elite Womens Football Programme winning the AoC Sport Cat 2 League, winning the regional 7-a-side and finishing fifth at the National Tournament;

l The Elite Mens Football Programme winning the AoC Sport Cat 2 League and making the semi-final of the National Under 18 England Schools Cup;

l Three male and two female football players achieving scholarships in America;

l Some 39 students progressing to university next year;

l Students supporting a range of community events including: Adapted sports day, community football cup, high school athletics, and primary school gymnastics, badminton and indoor athletics;

l Charity work, raising money for charity #DoitforKev;

l Working on projects with national governing bodies of sport including the LTA, RFU, UK Footgolf and Sport England.

The awards highlighted individuals for sporting success, their contribution to development, sports leadership and to their academic performance.

Principal David Pomfret said: “The winners tonight are an absolute inspiration to others and in turn should be inspired by our former students, who have shared their success and what is achievable after leaving CWA.”
