Denver youngster set to scale Ben Nevis with her family to support primary school's new library fund
A six-year-old girl is set to climb the UK's tallest mountain to raise money so her school can create a new library.
Ellie Armstrong, a pupil at Denver Primary School, made the decision as she wanted to find a way to help her teachers and classmates.
Denver Primary is a voluntary-controlled school and relies on fundraisers for new equipment.
Ellie’s mum Samantha Armstrong said that her daughter very spontaneously decided to climb Ben Nevis and got the rest of the family involved.
Samantha said: “Ellie is a very helpful child and wanted to raise money for her school."
Ellie’s parents and her three siblings, who have all scaled Mount Snowdon before for fun, will be accompanying her along the way.
The school is hoping to raise £2,000 to help convert their ICT suite into a new library. So far, more than £600 has been donated.
Its GoFundMe page states: “We want to create an amazing space where the pupils can further develop their love of reading, but need to do some fundraising to turn our dreams in to reality."
Denver Primary School is also appealing to any local businesses who would be willing to sponsor an area of the library and would make a donation to make it a 'fabulous place for the children to lose themselves in a book'.
“We hope to hold an event in the new term where businesses can visit the school and see what our plans are," the page adds.
Ellie and her family will take on the climb on Saturday, September 3.
