Emma’s ‘hedgehog Hilton’ now has its incubator in Terrington St Clement

Donations have poured in for a ‘hedgehog hotel’ based in Terrington St Clement, after she appealed for money to buy a much-needed incubator.

Emma started the hedgehog rescue hospital in October of last year, after previously fostering them towards supported release of the endangered mammal.

“I will do everything in my power to get them off the vulnerable extinction list, I adore hedgehogs,” Emma said.

“The money for the incubator, was raised so quickly. Thank you to everyone who donated.

Any excess funds raised from the GoFundMe online appeal will go on other essential equipment for the hotel.

Emma initially planned to raise £600 for an incubator to assist vulnerable hedgehogs and newborns(neonates), and after reaching her target in a matter of days the incubator is now in use.

According to the RSPCA hedgehog numbers have been ‘falling rapidly’ and decreased by 30 per cent between 2002 and 2013.

This is thought to be due to an increase in development that destroys the hogs natural habitat.

The building of roads has increased the incidence of road fatalities which is the main cause of hedgehog death.

Efforts like Emma’s hope to assist hedgehogs with breeding and release them safely into a safe, natural habitat where they can thrive.
