A former England and Great Britain football captain addressed students and parents at a Swaffham school’s sports awards evening.

Casey Stoney spoke about her journey towards becoming a professional player during the event at the town’s Nicholas Hamond Academy.

The Arsenal defender led the British women’s team at the 2012 London Olympics and has played more than 100 times for England, including at two World Cups and three European Championships.

And she presented the academy’s sports person of the year award, which recognises both ability in a range of sports and attitude in lessons, to year 10 pupil Holly Chen.

In total, more than 100 students were honoured during the ceremony.
