Downham Stow Cricket Club’s clubhouse expansion approved

A cricket club’s kitchen facilities and social area will be expanded in order to cope with growing demand.

Downham Stow Cricket Club, based in Stow Bardolph, has had its extension proposals approved by West Norfolk Council planning officers.

The existing pavilion has been enlarged over the years already, but is now in need of “increased refreshment facilities” during fixtures as the current kitchen and bar are considered “inadequate”.

The extension will therefore house “new enhanced facilities and a larger social area as a result of increased floor space”.

Stow Bardolph Parish Council voiced support for the plans, while there were a number of positive comments from residents who agreed the cricket club has outgrown its current clubhouse.

“The modest extension would accommodate improved facilities without adversely impacting the visual appearance of the building,” a borough council planning officer’s report said.

They added that the expansion will “enhance an existing community facility”.

Downham Stow Cricket Club was formed in 2020 as part of a merger between existing teams in Downham and Stow Bardolph.
