We have inherited a well planned Victorian sewer system, designed with spare capacity, which has been completely overwhelmed by the present conditions.

These include population growth, paving over of green spaces, consumer behaviour (especially in creating blockages with ‘fat burgers’), and the changing pattens of rainfall.

According to official figures, there are 15.000 sewage discharges in England a year, 13,500 of them into rivers.
