King's Lynn Palm Paper sponsors Environmental Champion category for Lynn News/Klimatech Education Awards 2022
Their site being a familiar sight to anyone driving around the outskirts of Lynn, Palm Paper has sponsored the Environmental Champion category for the Lynn News/Klimatech Education Awards 2022.
Located on Saddlebow Industrial Estate, the Poplar Avenue firm produces paper from 100 per cent recycled paper. The awards ceremony will take place in the Barn at Knights Hill Hotel, Lynn on Thursday, July 21.
Head of technology at Palm Paper, Peter Oughtibridge said: “Palm Paper in King’s Lynn is home to the UK’s largest paper machine, producing paper 24/7 from 100 per cent recycled paper.
“Choosing to sponsor the Environmental Champion award was a natural choice for us; the company has from the start, championed recycling.
“Every year we reprocess 600,000 tonnes of waste paper to produce new magazine paper and newsprint paper. This is enough waste paper to fill St James’ swimming pool 1,500 times! The waste paper is sourced from households and businesses all over Europe.
“As a large manufacturer, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously, working to reduce our impact on the environment. Palm Paper holds several prestigious Eco-Labels and is ISO-14001 certificated.
“More recently, the mill has been awarded participation in the government run “Industry of Future Programme”. This exciting scheme aims to help business develop a roadmap to Net Zero.
“The company strongly supports education in King’s Lynn and beyond – we have a thriving apprenticeship programme, recruiting people from the local area each year.
“Some of our employees have gone on to be sponsored through University after completing the apprenticeship.
“In May 2022, Palm Paper received the Confederation of Paper Industries Skills Award, recognising that the company has made a significant investment in skills development and training.”
