Prizes up for grabs as East Rudham equine vets launch powerful appeal to help horses in Ukraine
Equine vets at East Rudham are backing an appeal to help their counterparts who are struggling to care for horses in Ukraine.
The team at Anchorage Barn Equine Clinic have set themselves the target of raising £1500 – enough to send one generator out to the war torn country.
They are asking for donations and, as a thank you, will enter names into a draw with prizes including a family day out at the Fakenham racecourse meeting on Easter Monday
Power to Ukraine is a fundraiser launched by equestrian organisations, including the British Equine Veterinary Association, who have sourced generators that be safely transported to where they are needed in Ukraine and will be lifesaving for that country's vulnerable horses.
Winter has presented people and animals out there with incredible challenges, with temperatures dipping to -15°C. Short days and long freezing nights mean much of the daily care of Ukraine’s horses must be done outside daylight hours. Power cuts deprive vets of light, hot water, equipment and sustenance, making caring for displaced and injured horses difficult and emergency veterinary care almost impossible.
Diana Verhulst, director at Anchorage Barn Equine Clinic,, said: “Each generator costs £1,500 and we would like to assist them in their appeal and raise enough to provide a generator to The Power of Ukraine.”
They have set up a fundraising page (www.justgiving.com/page/anchoragebarnequineclinic) and give donors a chance to be entered into the prize draw. Top prize is a family day at the races kindly donated by Fakenham Racecourse. Others include a £50 animal feeds voucher donated by GJL Animal Feeds and an eqquine first aid kit donated by Farm and Stable
Diana added: “Please send us a quick email (clinic@anchoragebarnequineclinic.co.uk) after donating, with a contact phone number if you would like to be entered into our prize draw. If you would rather leave a cash donation, please visit the office.
