Liz Truss highlights ‘essential services’ at temporary hub in Downham Market after Lloyd bank closure

Liz Truss highlighted the “essential” services on offer during a visit to the recently opened temporary banking hub in Downham Town Hall.

The town’s Lloyds branch closed its doors for the final time yesterday, leaving residents without a full-time bank.

On Friday, Ms Truss, the South West Norfolk MP, made a trip to the new Cash Access UK hub. It will house services from all of the main high street banks while a permanent hub is established elsewhere.

It opened at the end of last month, providing residents and businesses with financial help, and is available between 9am and 5pm from Monday to Friday.

Ms Truss campaigned for a facility like this following the closure of various bank branches in the town.

She said: “It’s fantastic to see the new temporary banking hub delivering banking services in the local community at Downham Town Hall.

“Open for Downham residents every weekday, it is providing a number of different services, including access to cash, the cashing of cheques and the opportunity to meet with representatives from all the high street banks to deal with more complex issues.

“This is an essential community resource following the closure of the bank branches in the town.”
