Hunstanton Town Council discusses highways funding, HAG meetings and new councillor
Councillors are set to examine potential projects which could see up to £50,000 spent on improving their town.
Norfolk County Council’s Parish Partnership Scheme allows local authorities to bid up to £25,000 for highways improvement programmes, with match funding provided.
The deadline for applications is December 6 - and Hunstanton Town Council is in the process of creating a shortlist of ideas.
Cllr Mark Fuchter said the council needs to work out which projects are “in scope” of the project, before beginning work on an official application.
• Hunstanton mayor Cllr Michael Ruston told that the meeting that on November 21, he will attend a meeting which will explain how the council will benefit from an increased tax on second homes in the area.
• Cllr Jordan Cribb said he will be regularly attending meetings of the Hunstanton Advisory Group (HAG), and has invited councillors to provide him with questions they want him to ask on their behalf.
Suggestions included clarification on the future of the Oasis leisure centre and disabled signs being put up around town.
• A children’s author has become the latest member of Hunstanton Town Council.
At Wednesday’s meeting, Damian Carruthers was co-opted onto the authority - saying he wants to “make a difference”.
Earlier this year, he published children’s book ‘The Cheese Miner On The Moon’ - while he is also a musician and has held a variety of fundraising events in the town.
