Hilgay book sale held at village hall raises more than £3,000 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices

A village book sale which has been running for 40 years has boosted a children’s hospice cause by thousands of pounds.

Ali Dent, who has been organising his popular book sales for four decades, and a team of volunteers held the event at Hilgay Village Hall on Sunday, October 27.

It raised £3,046 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) - with a cheque handed over to staff from the charity earlier this month.

Ali said the book sale was “excellent” and thanked “all helpers and Tom from T&D Removals for the logistics”.

He’s already looking to the next book sale, which will be held in May.

In addition to his book sales, Ali also turns his hand to restoring and decorating unwanted garden ornaments and gnomes.

He’s still taking in the objects to be sold on in a bid to raise even more funds for EACH and The Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House, based at Hillington.

Donations can be dropped at his shop, AJ Dent Butchers in Hilgay, or Ali can be contacted via email: thebutcherswife@hotmail.co.uk or call 07979 370781.
