An incredible transformed water tower at Castle Acre has made it through to the Grand Designs House of the Year competition on Channel 4 television.

Viewers tuned into Wednesday’s programme presented by Kevin McLoud when It was one of five ‘surprising’ houses featured. Owners Dennis Pedersen and Misia Godebska proudly showed off the conversion with Dennis admitting that his inspiration was his childhood obsession with Thunderbirds.

The architect Mike Tonkin said it was important to get to know your individual client’s inspirations and in this case it was Thunderbirds.

The eco-friendly home has incorporated aspects of the original water tower with the rusting ironwork of the water tank still forming part of the living space atop the looming structure.

Two of the five homes on Wednesday’s programme were selected to go forward to the final and they will be joined by another six in the coming weeks before a champion is selected.
