Storm Darragh causes weekend chaos in West Norfolk with fallen trees, power outages and travel disruption
Rough weather caused chaos across the weekend as Storm Darragh swept across the country.
In West Norfolk, there were many reports of trees and debris in the road as well as some weekend events being cancelled.
A yellow weather warning was put in place, with winds reaching speeds of 50mph.
Sandringham Estate cancelled its Luminate winter light trail held around its woodland area on Saturday.
The arboretum and children’s play area were also closed.
Sandringham Estate posted on its Facebook page that ticket holders for Saturday can transfer their tickets to another date and time.
“The health and safety of our guests and staff remains our absolute priority,” the post added.
Power outages affected some on Saturday in Walpole Highway and Walpole St Andrew.
Samuel’s Farm Shop and Butchers were one of the businesses that reported a lack of power.
With heavy rainfall across the weekend, the A1101 Welney Wash road was once again hit by flooding.
This morning, the depth of the water on the road is reaching up to 41cm. Admins of the Welney Flood Watch Facebook group advised motorists to find an alternative route.
Congham Hall reported its much-loved and photographed tree had fallen down due to heavy winds at the weekend.
Another fallen tree had also blocked a public footpath in the North Lynn area which connects Lynnsport to the Strikes Bowling Alley.
High wind speeds led to a speed restriction being put in place for Great Northern trains travelling between Lynn and London King’s Cross.
A split service was operating all day on Saturday, meaning those wanting to get to London from Lynn, Watlington or Downham, had to get off at Cambridge and change trains.
Sporting fixtures were also called off at the weekend, including the cross-country event held at Shouldham Warren.
