Family to climb Mount Snowdon to raise money for Necton tennis court

A campaign is under way to enhance the sporting facilities on offer in Necton by building tennis courts for use by the community.

The plan is to construct the courts on Necton Playing Field as an all-year-round facility that can be enjoyed by all.

Driving the scheme is villager Thirza Hicks, who has already begun the fundraising process with around £8,500 secured for the project which could cost around £45,000.

Thirza’s latest idea to raise money is to embark on a sponsored climb to the top of Mount Snowdon alongside her husband Carl and her two children, 10-year-old Leyton and eight-year-old Amara.

Thirza said: “The village is growing rapidly and needs more sporting facilities, especially for girls.”

She believes a tennis court will be a positive addition, but the project will rely heavily on fundraising and grants.

The climb will take place on May 31 and Thirza has already been pledged £1,000 for the attempt, but is looking for further support.

The £8,500 raised so far has come from bingo and quiz nights and pledges from companies. POS Engineering Norfolk has offered to support with the required fencing.

You can donate to Thirza and her family’s Mount Snowdon climb by visiting their JustGiving page.

Thirza said: “We are looking at local companies who can assist with materials, fundraising or support financially in exchange for advertising on the finished court.

“Eventually, we would like to create a tennis club to secure lessons for both children and adults.”
