Famous feline is becoming a radio fur-nomenon in Swaffham
A ginger cat with a penchant for a certain upmarket supermarket is becoming a celebrity in the town of Swaffham.
Known as Sam the Swaffham Waitrose Cat, his unofficial title, he is regularly seen in the car park of the supermarket.
Sometimes getting in to the passenger seats of cars, lying in car parking spaces and even going inside the shop for a browse.
Over the last 12 months he has been gaining stardom and is now even being mentioned on Liza Tarbuck's Radio 2 show on a Saturday evening.
Emma from Bury St. Edmunds had stopped at the store on her way home from Wells, and saw Sam the Swaffham Waitrose cat (unofficial title) being photographed by a man that she took a shine to and was hoping to get in touch with.
Liza on her show said: "He was a very nice looking gent of a certain age and if he's unattached, and who goes into Waitrose at 6.30pm on Saturdays otherwise, if he's unattached and listening perhaps Sam could make the necessary introductions."
The week before the presenter Shaun Keaveny had filled in on the show and a picture of Sam had been sent in by Tim Marchant.
Hoping that perhaps Tim was the man that Emma had seen taking the picture, with Sam at the wedding as ring bearer is sadly not the fairytale ending ... yet.
Tim Marchant, 57 from Litcham said: "It wasn't me taking the picture as the timings didn't add up. Sam has been famous for quite some time and everybody has heard of him.
"Liza has been mentioning him on the radio and people who are heading to the cost pop in Swaffham Waitrose to see Sam.
"He's confident getting in to cars and is a bit of cool character. There is a notice on on of the tills to tell people not to worry, he's not a stray and he's well looked after. He just likes spending a lot of time here at Waitrose.
"He's even been into the shop. He's a clever cat as he knows it's 20 percent off fish on a Friday."
Swaffham Waitrose has been contacted for comment.
