Hunstanton Christmas Day swim set to go ahead in 2022 - while town's District Rotary Club hosts series of festive events
A town’s famous Christmas event is getting ever closer - and voluntary groups are at the heart of this year’s festive spirit.
The 2022 Hunstanton Christmas Day Swim is set to return, with funds being raised for the Caring Together charity - which aims to help children throughout Norfolk who look after family members.
The Hunstanton and District Round Table 615 is organising the event once again, and has spoken to young carers during the build-up.
On the day, registration is expected to take place between10-10.30am - with a fancy dress competition shortly afterwards.
Taking place from the town’s central promenade, swimming will then begin at around 11am. Hot soup and showers will be on offer afterwards, with certificates available at the Alive Oasis reception.
Sponsorship forms can be found on the Round Table’s Facebook page.
On one post, Caring Together commented: “With your support we can help more children and young people to take a break from cleaning, washing, cooking, looking after siblings and just have fun and be themselves for a change.”
Meanwhile, the Hunstanton and District Rotary Club has also been hosting a series of fun Christmas events.
In late November, the group raised £250 for local breast cancer charities by decorating the outside of the Ski Cafe on the promenade with donated bras.
Member Adrian Evans said: “We would like to thank Peter Byrne and all his staff at the Ski Cafe for all their generous help in allowing us to use their premises.”
The group also had a stall at Hunstanton’s Christmas lights switch-on, selling mulled wine, hot chocolate, and mince pies.
On a successful evening, the team managed to raise £286 for charity.
Next up, on December 1, twelve Rotarians took an enjoyable trip on the Norfolk Lights Express.
Over the next two days, they displayed a tree at the Hunstanton Christmas Tree Festival. Funds raised went to the premature baby unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital - an idea from Mary Harpley.
A total of £100 was donated thanks to the display.
