West Norfolk Junior Badminton player, Charlie Wakefield was runner-up at the Norfolk March Madness tournament run by North Norfolk Juniors.

Twelve-year-old Wakefield, from Feltwell, was joined by younger brother Harry and Luc Widdowson from North Wootton in the second annual event which now attracts dozens of juniors from across the county.

Boys and girls were put into eight mixed groups, and then played several rounds each, so the children were eventually placed in order from 1 to 38.

After both winning their respective first groups, Charlie and Harry went through to the top half of the draw.

Having won one of his group games, Widdowson went into the lower half of the draw, where he then won three matches to finish runner-up of that section, finishing 18th overall.

In the top of the draw, both Wakefield brothers won their first game but that meant they were drawn against each other, with older brother Charlie winning 21-7.

This meant that Charlie was playing for places 1 to 4 and Harry in the box for places 5 to 8.

In their last matches Harry won to finish seventh and Charlie just lost to George Underwood from Norwich to finish second overall.

At the end of the day, Harry finished as the top under 10 player and Charlie was the top under 13 as well as being voted “Most Sporting Player” by the parents.
